About the tides at Boca Chica Key

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. The mean range is small, about 1.3 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.7 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 26, with a range of 2.2 ft. Neap tides follow on October 20, when the range shrinks to 1.3 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.4 ft on October 29, and the lowest is −0.5 ft on January 21.

Boca Chica Key is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Key West: highs come about 234 min and lows about 322 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1970 to 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Duck Key Point, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 27 min earlier.
