About the tides at Cape Hooper

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. Water here rises and falls only about 0.47 m on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most Nunavut stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 0.87 m, comes on Friday, and the smallest, 0.40 m, on October 13.

Predictions for Cape Hooper come from this station's own tide records. There is no live sensor, so the table shows forecast only. It was established in 1955. The nearest other station is Kivitoo, 98 km away, where high tide comes about 8 min later. Heights are measured from chart datum, which in most Canadian tidal waters is set near the lowest normal tide. That is why lows here rarely go below zero.
