About the tides at Cockroach Bay

Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.4 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay. The mean range is small, about 1.2 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.7 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 2.2 ft. Neap tides follow on Thursday, when the range shrinks to 1.2 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.1 ft on July 4, and the lowest is −0.5 ft on January 21.

Cockroach Bay is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay: highs come about 29 min earlier and lows about 17 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1990 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Shell Point, 8726468, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 37 min later. For tidal currents, see Shell Point, 1.1 miles west of.

Predictions are based on St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay.
