About the tides at Halfmoon
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.8 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Fort Pulaski, Savannah River. The range is large, about 7.4 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 7.9 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 9.4 ft on October 27, and the lowest is −1.9 ft on January 23.
Halfmoon is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Fort Pulaski, Savannah River: highs come about 81 min and lows about 69 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1977 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Eagle Neck, 4 mi away, where high tide comes about 5 min earlier. For tidal currents, see N. Newport River, Ese of S. Newport Cut.
Predictions are based on Fort Pulaski, Savannah River.
