About the tides at Hamilton Island

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The mean range is small, about 0.42 m, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Nunavut stations on this site. The next spring tides peak today, with a range of 0.66 m. Neap tides follow on October 7, when the range shrinks to 0.32 m.

This is a prediction station. CHS calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. It was established in 1971. The nearest other station is Cape Capel, 99 km away, where high tide comes about 23 min earlier. Canadian tide heights use chart datum, a level set low on purpose. Negative heights are uncommon.
