About the tides at Hog Island
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 1.0 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at SAN FRANCISCO (Golden Gate). The average range is about 4.6 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. The next spring tides peak today, with a range of 7.0 ft. Neap tides follow tomorrow, when the range shrinks to 4.2 ft.
Hog Island is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting SAN FRANCISCO (Golden Gate): highs come about 107 min and lows about 156 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1979 to 1980 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Petaluma River entrance, 4 mi away, where high tide comes about 24 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Petaluma River entrance.
Predictions are based on SAN FRANCISCO (Golden Gate).
