About the tides at Howe Key

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Key West. The mean range is small, about 0.9 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Florida stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 1.9 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 0.9 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 1.8 ft on October 29, and the lowest is −0.4 ft on January 21.

Howe Key is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Key West: highs come about 283 min and lows about 289 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1973 to 1974 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Big Pine Key, northeast shore, 1 mi away, where high tide comes about 1 h 24 m earlier. For tidal currents, see No Name Key, northeast of.

Predictions are based on Key West.
