About the tides at Kitimat

Expect two roughly equal high tides a day at Kitimat, each arriving about 50 minutes later than the day before. Kitimat sees a mean range of about 3.49 m. Low tide can expose a wide area, and the return is fast. That is larger than most British Columbia stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 5.20 m, comes on Sunday, and the smallest, 2.19 m, on October 16.

Kitimat is a CHS station with a live water level gauge. Predictions come from the station's own tidal analysis. It was established in 1951. The nearest other station is Kwinitsa River, 63 km away, where high tide comes about 2 h 6 m later. Heights are measured from chart datum, which in most Canadian tidal waters is set near the lowest normal tide. That is why lows here rarely go below zero.
