About the tides at Nain
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. With a mean range of about 1.59 m, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. That is larger than most Newfoundland and Labrador stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 2.31 m, comes today, and the smallest, 1.15 m, on Sunday.
Nain is a CHS station with a live water level gauge. Predictions come from the station's own tidal analysis. The nearest other station is John Hayes Harbour, 17 km away, where high tide comes about 17 min earlier. Heights are measured from chart datum, which in most Canadian tidal waters is set near the lowest normal tide. That is why lows here rarely go below zero.
