About the tides at Port Hardy

Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.44 m, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. With a mean range of about 2.77 m, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. That is larger than most British Columbia stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 4.24 m, comes on October 11, and the smallest, 2.13 m, on Friday.

Port Hardy is a CHS station with a live water level gauge. Predictions come from the station's own tidal analysis. It was established in 1964. The nearest other station is Coal Harbour, 15 km away, where high tide comes about 24 min later. Heights are measured from chart datum, which in most Canadian tidal waters is set near the lowest normal tide. That is why lows here rarely go below zero.
