About the tides at San Simeon

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Port San Luis, San Luis Obispo Bay. On a typical day the water moves about 3.5 ft between high and low. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 5.2 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 7.0 ft on December 24 and bottom out at −1.9 ft on December 24.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Port San Luis, San Luis Obispo Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Mansfield Cone, 27 mi away, where high tide comes about 8 min later.
