About the tides at Smith Inlet

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The range is large, about 2.44 m on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 4.02 m. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 1.45 m.

This is a prediction station. CHS calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. It was established in 1984. The nearest other station is Boswell Inlet, 20 km away, where high tide comes about 8 min earlier. Canadian tide heights use chart datum, a level set low on purpose. Negative heights are uncommon.
