About the tides at Tofino

Tofino has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. With a mean range of about 2.00 m, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 3.71 m, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 0.89 m, tomorrow.

Tofino is a CHS station with a live water level gauge. Predictions come from the station's own tidal analysis. It was established in 1905. The nearest other station is Cypress Bay, 12 km away, where high tide comes about 8 min later. Heights are measured from chart datum, which in most Canadian tidal waters is set near the lowest normal tide. That is why lows here rarely go below zero.
