About the tides at Alligator Point

Alligator Point has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at St. Marks Lhtse., Apalachee Bay. Water here rises and falls only about 1.9 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is larger than most Florida stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.8 ft. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 3.3 ft on August 2 and bottom out at −1.1 ft on December 24.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at St. Marks Lhtse., Apalachee Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1975 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Bald Point, 5 mi away, where high tide comes about 36 min later.
