About the tides at Bamfield
This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. With a mean range of about 1.90 m, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 3.63 m, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 1.26 m, on November 1.
Bamfield is a CHS station with a live water level gauge. Predictions come from the station's own tidal analysis. It was established in 1969. The nearest other station is Effingham Bay, 14 km away. Heights are measured from chart datum, which in most Canadian tidal waters is set near the lowest normal tide. That is why lows here rarely go below zero.
Tide predictions and water levels from the Canadian Hydrographic Service. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
