About the tides at Bechers Bay

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Los Angeles, Outer Harbor. On a typical day the water moves about 3.4 ft between high and low. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 5.1 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 6.9 ft, comes on October 26, and the smallest, 0.2 ft, on Sunday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 6.8 ft on December 24 and bottom out at −2.0 ft on January 21.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Los Angeles, Outer Harbor, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Cuyler Harbor, 18 mi away, where high tide comes about 6 min later.
