About the tides at Black Rock Harbor

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.5 ft. The range is large, about 6.8 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most Connecticut stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 7.3 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 9.2 ft. Neap tides follow tomorrow, when the range shrinks to 4.6 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 8.5 ft on September 2, and the lowest is −1.4 ft on January 23.

This is a prediction station. NOAA calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. NOAA measured the tide here in 2003 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Bridgeport, 2 mi away. For tidal currents, see Bridgeport Harbor, Tongue Point.
