About the tides at Block Islands

Block Islands has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The tide range here is very large, about 3.25 m on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most British Columbia stations on this site. The next spring tides peak today, with a range of 4.81 m. Neap tides follow on Friday, when the range shrinks to 2.60 m.

This is a prediction station. CHS calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. It was established in 1947. The nearest other station is Oswald Bay, 17 km away. Canadian tide heights use chart datum, a level set low on purpose. Negative heights are uncommon.
