About the tides at Boston Light
Boston Light has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. With a mean range of about 9.1 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. That is larger than most Massachusetts stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 9.8 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 10.6 ft, comes today, and the smallest, 6.1 ft, on October 18. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 11.4 ft on December 25 and bottom out at −1.7 ft on January 23.
Predictions for Boston Light come from this station's own tide records. There is no live sensor, so the table shows forecast only. NOAA measured the tide here from 2000 to 2004 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Hull, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 6 min later. For tidal currents, see Boston Light, 0.2 n.mi. south of.
