About the tides at Burnt Island

Burnt Island has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Portland, casco Bay. With a mean range of about 8.6 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 11.6 ft, comes on October 26, and the smallest, 6.0 ft, on Monday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 11.4 ft on December 25 and bottom out at −1.8 ft on January 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Portland, casco Bay, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Port Clyde, 4 mi away. For tidal currents, see Muscongus Sound.

Predictions are based on Portland, casco Bay.
