About the tides at Portland

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.7 ft. With a mean range of about 9.1 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 9.9 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 10.8 ft, comes tomorrow, and the smallest, 6.1 ft, on October 19. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 11.6 ft on December 25 and bottom out at −1.8 ft on January 23.
