About the tides at Burntcoat Head
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.32 m. The tide range here is very large, about 11.67 m on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most Nova Scotia stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on Sunday, with a range of 14.37 m. Neap tides follow on October 19, when the range shrinks to 8.92 m.
This is a prediction station. CHS calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. The nearest other station is Five Islands, 26 km away, where high tide comes about 12 min later. Canadian tide heights use chart datum, a level set low on purpose. Negative heights are uncommon.
Tide predictions and water levels from the Canadian Hydrographic Service. For planning only, not for navigation. Real water levels can differ because of wind, air pressure and river flow. Always check conditions on site.
