About the tides at Cape Capstan

Cape Capstan has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The tide range here is very large, about 8.23 m on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most Nova Scotia stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 10, with a range of 10.26 m. Neap tides follow on Saturday, when the range shrinks to 8.14 m.

This is a prediction station. CHS calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. The nearest other station is Herring Cove, 14 km away, where high tide comes about 8 min earlier. Canadian tide heights use chart datum, a level set low on purpose. Negative heights are uncommon.
