About the tides at Capers Creek, Cowen Creek, St. Helena Island
Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.8 ft. The pattern follows the reference station at Fort Pulaski, Savannah River. The range is large, about 7.2 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is larger than most South Carolina stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 25, with a range of 8.9 ft. Neap tides follow on Monday, when the range shrinks to 5.6 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 9.6 ft on October 27, and the lowest is −1.7 ft on January 23.
Capers Creek, Cowen Creek, St. Helena Island is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Fort Pulaski, Savannah River: highs come about 58 min and lows about 34 min later than there. The nearest other station is Distant Island, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 15 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Chowan Creek.
Predictions are based on Fort Pulaski, Savannah River.
