About the tides at Captiva Island
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 0.4 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay. The mean range is small, about 1.4 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. The next spring tides peak on Wednesday, with a range of 2.3 ft. Neap tides follow on October 21, when the range shrinks to 1.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.8 ft on July 4, and the lowest is −0.9 ft on January 21.
Captiva Island is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay: highs come about 46 min and lows about 20 min earlier than there. The nearest other station is Redfish Pass, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 9 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Captiva Pass.
Predictions are based on St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay.
