About the tides at Carrabelle
Expect two roughly equal high tides a day at Carrabelle River, St. George Sound, each arriving about 50 minutes later than the day before. The pattern follows the reference station at Apalachicola, Apalachicola River. Water here rises and falls only about 1.6 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.3 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 3.1 ft, comes on Tuesday, and the smallest, 1.5 ft, on October 22. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 3.6 ft on October 1 and bottom out at −1.8 ft on January 21.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Apalachicola, Apalachicola River, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Dog Island, west end, 4 mi away, where high tide comes about 28 min earlier.
