About the tides at Cedar Island Point
Cedar Island Point has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Charleston, Cooper River Entrance. On a typical day the water moves about 3.9 ft between high and low. That is smaller than most South Carolina stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 5.4 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 3.1 ft, today. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 5.4 ft on October 1 and bottom out at −1.2 ft on January 23.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Charleston, Cooper River Entrance, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here in 1964 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Cedar Island, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 13 min later. For tidal currents, see South Santee River entrance.
Predictions are based on Charleston, Cooper River Entrance.
