About the tides at Charlestown

Charlestown has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Baltimore, Fort McHenry, Patapsco River. The mean range is small, about 1.7 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is larger than most Maryland stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 3.2 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 1.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 3.6 ft on July 4, and the lowest is −1.2 ft on January 22.

Charlestown is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Baltimore, Fort McHenry, Patapsco River: highs come about 232 min and lows about 243 min later than there. The nearest other station is Town Point Wharf, 6 mi away, where high tide comes about 42 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Red Point, 0.2 mile W of, Northeast River.

Predictions are based on Baltimore, Fort McHenry, Patapsco River.
