About the tides at Cheatham Annex
Cheatham Annex has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Sewells Point, Hampton Roads. On a typical day the water moves about 2.4 ft between high and low. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 3.5 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 1.8 ft, on Tuesday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 3.6 ft on September 30 and bottom out at −0.7 ft on January 23.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Sewells Point, Hampton Roads, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Gloucester Point, 6 mi away, where high tide comes about 37 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Pages Rock, 1 mile Sse of.
Predictions are based on Sewells Point, Hampton Roads.
