About the tides at Chincoteague Island, Blake Cove

Chincoteague Island, Blake Cove has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Ocean City, Fishing Pier. Water here rises and falls only about 0.8 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. That is smaller than most Virginia stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 1.5 ft, comes on October 28, and the smallest, 0.4 ft, today. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 1.4 ft on November 25 and bottom out at −0.6 ft on January 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Ocean City, Fishing Pier, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Chincoteague Island, Oyster Bay, 0.8 mi away, where high tide comes about 7 min earlier.

Predictions are based on Ocean City, Fishing Pier.
