About the tides at Drayton
Drayton has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Charleston, Cooper River Entrance. With a mean range of about 5.7 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 6.2 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 7.6 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 4.2 ft, on Sunday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 7.5 ft on October 1 and bottom out at −1.5 ft on January 23.
Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Charleston, Cooper River Entrance, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1976 to 1990 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is I-526 bridge, 2 mi away, where high tide comes about 17 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Drayton, Railroad Bridge.
Predictions are based on Charleston, Cooper River Entrance.
