About the tides at Drift Creek

Drift Creek has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Charleston, Coos Bay. The range is large, about 5.1 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 6.5 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 8.0 ft on December 24, and the lowest is −1.3 ft on July 5.

Drift Creek is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Charleston, Coos Bay: highs come about 44 min and lows about 111 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1976 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Waldport, 4 mi away, where high tide comes about 10 min earlier.
