About the tides at Eastmain River

Eastmain River has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. On a typical day the water moves about 0.67 m between high and low. That is smaller than most Quebec stations on this site. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 0.93 m, comes on October 13, and the smallest, 0.70 m, on October 7.

Predictions for Eastmain River come from this station's own tide records. There is no live sensor, so the table shows forecast only. It was established in 1958. The nearest other station is Strutton Islands, 31 km away, where high tide comes about 26 min earlier. Heights are measured from chart datum, which in most Canadian tidal waters is set near the lowest normal tide. That is why lows here rarely go below zero.
