About the tides at English Bay

English Bay has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Unalaska. The mean range is small, about 1.7 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Alaska stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 15, with a range of 3.1 ft. Neap tides follow on Friday, when the range shrinks to 1.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 4.0 ft on December 23, and the lowest is −1.2 ft on June 6.

English Bay is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Unalaska: highs come about 16 min later and lows about 1 min earlier than there. The nearest other station is Udamat Bay, 7 mi away, where high tide comes about 2 h 46 m earlier. For tidal currents, see Unalga Pass.
