About the tides at Haleiwa

Haleiwa has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Honolulu. The mean range is small, about 1.4 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 1.9 ft. The next spring tides peak today, with a range of 1.7 ft. Neap tides follow on October 8, when the range shrinks to 1.4 ft.

Haleiwa is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Honolulu: highs come about 62 min and lows about 125 min earlier than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1983 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Waianae, 12 mi away, where high tide comes about 1 h 22 m later. For tidal currents, see Kahuku Point.

Predictions are based on Honolulu.
