About the tides at Hana

Hana has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Kahului. The mean range is small, about 1.9 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is larger than most Hawaii stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 12, with a range of 2.7 ft. Neap tides follow on Saturday, when the range shrinks to 2.3 ft.

Hana is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Kahului: highs come about 40 min and lows about 18 min later than there. The nearest other station is Makena, 30 mi away, where high tide comes about 41 min later. For tidal currents, see Hana Bay.
