About the tides at Mahukona

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Hilo, Hilo Bay, Kuhio Bay, Hawaii Island. Water here rises and falls only about 1.3 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 2.6 ft on December 24 and bottom out at −0.5 ft on December 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Hilo, Hilo Bay, Kuhio Bay, Hawaii Island, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them.
