About the tides at Mahukona

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Hilo. Water here rises and falls only about 1.4 ft on an average day. A strong onshore wind can push levels above the prediction. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 2.2 ft, comes on October 11, and the smallest, 1.2 ft, tomorrow.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Hilo, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. The nearest other station is Kawaihae, 11 mi away, where high tide comes about 21 min later. For tidal currents, see Upolu Point.
