About the tides at Honuapo

Honuapo has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Hilo. The mean range is small, about 1.7 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is larger than most Hawaii stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on Sunday, with a range of 2.8 ft. Neap tides follow on October 18, when the range shrinks to 1.5 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 3.3 ft on December 24, and the lowest is −0.7 ft on December 23.

Honuapo is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Hilo: highs come about 38 min and lows about 33 min later than there. The nearest other station is Napoopoo, 36 mi away, where high tide comes about 10 min later.
