About the tides at Hookton Slough
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 1.2 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at HUMBOLDT BAY (North Spit). The average range is about 5.0 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is larger than most California stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 6.9 ft. The next spring tides peak today, with a range of 8.1 ft. Neap tides follow on Saturday, when the range shrinks to 3.1 ft.
Hookton Slough is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting HUMBOLDT BAY (North Spit): highs come about 6 min and lows about 15 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Fields Landing, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 8 min earlier.
