About the tides at Hookton Slough
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 1.2 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at North Spit, Humboldt Bay. The average range is about 5.0 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is larger than most California stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 6.9 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 9.6 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 4.5 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 8.9 ft on December 24, and the lowest is −2.2 ft on June 6.
Hookton Slough is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting North Spit, Humboldt Bay: highs come about 6 min and lows about 15 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Fields Landing, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 6 min earlier.
