About the tides at Knappa
Tides here are mixed. On average the two daily highs differ by 1.2 ft, so check which low is the lower one before you head out. The pattern follows the reference station at Astoria, Tongue Point, Columbia River. The range is large, about 6.7 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 8.3 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 10.3 ft on December 24, and the lowest is −1.8 ft on July 5.
Knappa is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Astoria, Tongue Point, Columbia River: highs come about 29 min and lows about 58 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1935 to 1981 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Settlers Point, 4 mi away, where high tide comes about 7 min earlier.
