About the tides at Kugluktuk

Tides at Kugluktuk are mostly diurnal: one rise and one fall a day, with a slow change between them. The mean range is small, about 0.18 m, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Nunavut stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 7, with a range of 0.24 m. Neap tides follow on October 11, when the range shrinks to 0.04 m.

This is a prediction station. CHS calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. It was established in 1973. The nearest other station is Black Berry Island, 88 km away, where high tide comes about 36 min later. Canadian tide heights use chart datum, a level set low on purpose. Negative heights are uncommon.
