About the tides at La Grosse Île

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.53 m. The tide range here is very large, about 4.31 m on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most Quebec stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on Monday, with a range of 5.49 m. Neap tides follow on October 19, when the range shrinks to 2.46 m.

This is a prediction station. CHS calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. It was established in 1900. The nearest other station is Banc du Cap Brûlé, 8.3 km away, where high tide comes about 15 min earlier. Canadian tide heights use chart datum, a level set low on purpose. Negative heights are uncommon.
