About the tides at L'Anse-Saint-Jean

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The tide range here is very large, about 3.47 m on average. Water can come in faster than you can walk across flats. Check the time before you go out. That is larger than most Quebec stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 11, with a range of 4.93 m. Neap tides follow on Tuesday, when the range shrinks to 2.71 m.

This is a prediction station. CHS calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. It was established in 1937. The nearest other station is Baie-Sainte-Catherine, 36 km away, where high tide comes about 12 min earlier. Canadian tide heights use chart datum, a level set low on purpose. Negative heights are uncommon.
