About the tides at Main Marsh Thorofare

Main Marsh Thorofare has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at Atlantic City, Atlantic Ocean. On a typical day the water moves about 3.2 ft between high and low. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 3.7 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 4.5 ft, comes on October 27, and the smallest, 2.2 ft, today. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 4.5 ft on August 2 and bottom out at −0.9 ft on January 23.

Tides here are worked out from the reference station at Atlantic City, Atlantic Ocean, with NOAA time and height corrections. Times are good for planning, but local wind can shift them. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1979 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Brigantine Channel @ Hoffman Thorofare, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 11 min earlier.
