About the tides at Graveling Point

Graveling Point has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Sandy Hook. The average range is about 3.2 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 3.7 ft. The next spring tides peak on October 27, with a range of 4.4 ft. Neap tides follow tomorrow, when the range shrinks to 2.3 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 4.3 ft on August 2, and the lowest is −0.9 ft on January 23.

Graveling Point is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Sandy Hook: highs come about 44 min and lows about 74 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1977 to 1978 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Seven Island, 3 mi away, where high tide comes about 12 min earlier.
