About the tides at Middletown
Middletown has a mixed tide. The two daily highs, and especially the two lows, can differ a lot in height. The pattern follows the reference station at New London, Thames River. The average range is about 2.2 ft. Spring tides add a little more at both ends. That is smaller than most Connecticut stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 2.5 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 3.0 ft on July 4, and the lowest is −0.6 ft on January 23.
Middletown is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting New London, Thames River: highs come about 234 min and lows about 279 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1987 to 1988 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Maromas, 5 mi away, where high tide comes about 29 min earlier. For tidal currents, see Wilcox Island Park, east of.
Predictions are based on New London, Thames River.
