About the tides at Newtok

Tides here follow a regular twice-daily rhythm. The two daily highs usually differ by only 0.4 ft. With a mean range of about 5.3 ft, the shoreline here changes a lot between high and low water. That is smaller than most Alaska stations on this site. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 6.2 ft. Over the next two weeks the biggest daily range, 7.7 ft, comes on October 29, and the smallest, 4.1 ft, on Thursday. Looking a year ahead, predictions peak at 7.2 ft on July 9 and bottom out at −1.2 ft on December 26.
