About the tides at North Point

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The pattern follows the reference station at Baltimore, Fort McHenry, Patapsco River. The mean range is small, about 0.9 ft, so wind and pressure can matter as much as the tide itself. That is smaller than most Maryland stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on October 28, with a range of 1.7 ft. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 0.5 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 2.0 ft on July 4, and the lowest is −0.7 ft on January 22.

North Point is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Baltimore, Fort McHenry, Patapsco River: highs come about 12 min and lows about 4 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here from 1971 to 1983 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Hawkins Point, 5 mi away, where high tide comes about 12 min earlier. For tidal currents, see North Point, Brewerton Channel.

Predictions are based on Baltimore, Fort McHenry, Patapsco River.
