About the tides at Octopus Islands

This is a mixed-tide station. Some days bring a deep low and a shallow low, and a few days have only one of each. The range is large, about 1.65 m on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. That is smaller than most British Columbia stations on this site. The next spring tides peak on Wednesday, with a range of 2.75 m. Neap tides follow today, when the range shrinks to 1.35 m.

This is a prediction station. CHS calculates its tides from past measurements at this spot, but there is no live gauge today. The nearest other station is Owen Bay, 3.2 km away, where high tide comes about 1 h 48 m earlier. Canadian tide heights use chart datum, a level set low on purpose. Negative heights are uncommon.
