About the tides at Old Tower
Old Tower has a semidiurnal tide: two highs and two lows of similar height each day, about 12 hours and 25 minutes apart. The pattern follows the reference station at Fort Pulaski, Savannah River. The range is large, about 6.8 ft on average. Flats and bars appear and vanish quickly, so keep an eye on the time. From the average lower low to the average higher high, the difference is 7.4 ft. In the next 12 months the highest predicted tide here is 8.8 ft on October 27, and the lowest is −1.7 ft on January 23.
Old Tower is a subordinate station. NOAA predicts its tides by adjusting Fort Pulaski, Savannah River: highs come about 15 min and lows about 14 min later than there. NOAA measured the tide here in 1980 to set up these predictions. The nearest other station is Rockdedundy River (Daymark 185), 3 mi away. For tidal currents, see South River.
